Two new Shinwa stainless steel cooling towers installed on the purpose-built structural platform on the Unilever North Rocks rooftop, with handrails and access grating.

Project story

QEG was engaged by Unilever Australia to replace two end-of-life cooling towers serving the rooftop process cooling system at the North Rocks manufacturing site. Working from a verbal briefing by Unilever and several site inspections, QEG designed and constructed a new cooling tower installation comprising two Shinwa stainless-steel cooling towers (16.1 l/s each) mounted on a purpose-fabricated structural steel platform, along with new condenser water pipework, a new Masterflow Baker condenser water pump (required to resolve a pre-existing NPSH shortfall), and a side-stream filtration system to improve condenser water quality. Works also included reconnection of the existing chemical dosing system, updates to the BMS control philosophy, all rigging and cranage including over-the-roof lifts, and full commissioning and handover.
