A note from QEG

Doing the work, end-to-end.

QEG was founded in 2009 to provide independent mechanical services advice clients could actually rely on. Seventeen years later, the practice has grown into a five-discipline engineering firm — but the original principle is unchanged.

The engineer who designs your system is the engineer accountable for handing it over. No competing trades, no hidden margins, no finger-pointing on commissioning day.

This document is a brief introduction to what we do, the projects we've delivered, and the standards we hold ourselves to. If anything here speaks to a project you're scoping, we'd welcome the conversation.

How we started

A consulting practice, by an engineer.

Founded in 2009 by Robbert Frielink — a mechanical services engineer with two decades of design and construction experience. The original brief was simple: provide independent advice clients could actually rely on.

Where we are now

Five disciplines, one team.

Seventeen years later the practice has grown to cover design, construction, pre-fabrication, gas turbine inlet cooling, and 24/7 critical-plant maintenance. The thread connecting it all: end-to-end accountability.

Three things we don't compromise on
01
One accountable team.
The engineers who design the system are the engineers responsible for handing it over.
02
Buildable from day one.
Every design is reviewed for fabrication and install constraints before it goes to drawing.
03
Final means final.
Handover isn't paper-complete — it's load-prove complete. We don't leave until the plant has run under real load.

Design & Construct

01 · Flagship

Single-source delivery — concept through commissioning, one accountable team. The team that designs the system is the team that fabricates, installs, and proves it under load.

  • End-to-end mechanical services D&C
  • Detailed design, drawings and specifications
  • Procurement and trade coordination
  • Site install, integration and tie-in
  • Commissioning, load-prove and handover

Pre-Fabrication

02

Skid-mounted plant assemblies built offsite — installed and proven in days, not weeks. Best where shutdown windows, site access or weather are constraints.

  • Modular chiller, AHU and pump skid design
  • Offsite fabrication and FAT
  • Transport, crane lift and site placement
  • Site tie-in and commissioning

Maintenance

03

Planned and reactive service for critical mechanical plant. 24/7 response, condition-based scheduling, full digital records.

  • Planned preventative maintenance (PPM)
  • 24/7 reactive call-out
  • Condition monitoring and trending
  • Refrigerant logbook and reporting

GTIC

04

Gas turbine inlet cooling. Lower the inlet temperature, lift the power output. Evaporative and chiller-based systems, retrofit and new install.

  • System design and modelling
  • Output uplift and ROI analysis
  • Retrofit and new-install delivery
  • Seasonal commissioning through summer peak

Consulting

05

Mechanical services design, peer review and expert input for clients who need an experienced second set of eyes — or a primary one.

  • Concept and detailed design
  • Peer review of third-party packages
  • Feasibility studies and options analysis
  • Expert witness and dispute support

The brief

End-of-life central chilled water plant at a heritage CBD building required full replacement. Abacus Property Group needed a design and construct partner who could deliver without disrupting tenants or compromising the building's heritage character.

Our approach

QEG was engaged on a Design & Construct basis. Leveraging its proven delivery methodology — weekly progress reports, proactive stakeholder communication, and close coordination with the original design consultant — the replacement was completed on time and on budget.

Equipment installed

  • 2 × 430 kW Dunham-Bush magnetic bearing chillers
  • 2 × high-efficiency Wilo chilled water pumps with integrated VSD
  • 2 × high-efficiency Wilo condenser water pumps with integrated VSD
  • BMS control modifications
"From the initial report through to project delivery and completion, Quantum Engineering Group exceeded our expectations at every stage. With respect to performance of the plant, we'll let the stats do the talking." Carlos Olivares · National Engineering Manager · Abacus Property Group
