01 · What we do

We engineer, fabricate, and commission the mechanical systems that keep data centres, hospitals, factories, and power stations running. The work is technical, the standards are high, the handover is final.

02 · The story

How we started

A consulting practice, by an engineer.

QEG was founded in 2009 by Robbert Frielink — a mechanical services engineer with two decades of design and construction experience across Australia’s most demanding sectors.

The original brief was simple: provide independent consulting advice clients could actually rely on. No competing trades, no hidden margins, just engineering.

Where we are now

Five disciplines, one team.

17 years later, the consulting practice has grown into a five-discipline mechanical services firm — covering design, construction, pre-fabrication, gas turbine inlet cooling, and 24/7 maintenance.

The thread connecting all of it: the same engineers who specify a system are accountable for delivering and handing it over running.

03 · Milestones

Seventeen years, one trajectory.

2009FoundedRobbert Frielink establishes QEG as an independent mechanical services consultancy out of Sydney.
2012First D&C projectExpands from pure consulting into single-source design & construct delivery for a national logistics client.
2015Pre-fabrication divisionSets up dedicated workshop capacity for skid-mounted plant assembly — purpose-built for short shutdown windows.
2018First GTIC commissionDelivers first gas turbine inlet cooling system, commissioned through a peak summer at full plant load.
2021100th projectCrosses 100 commissioned projects. Brisbane office opens to support QLD work.
2024Critical-plant maintenanceFormal 24/7 maintenance offering launches, anchored by remote condition-monitoring infrastructure.

04 · How we work

Three things we don’t compromise on.

01

One accountable team.

The engineers who design the system are the engineers responsible for handing it over. No handoff between consulting and delivery; no finger-pointing on commissioning day.

02

Buildable from day one.

Every design is reviewed for fabrication and install constraints before it goes to drawing. The site team sees the documentation while there's still time to influence it.

03

Final means final.

Handover isn't paper-complete — it's load-prove complete. We don't leave until the new plant has run under real conditions and the client has signed off.

06 · Careers

Engineers welcome.
Tradespeople too.

QEG runs lean by design. Every member of the team — engineer, fabricator, foreman, scheduler — owns end-to-end pieces of work, sees them through commissioning, and shares in the outcome.

If you’ve worked in plant rooms, designed mechanical systems, or run install teams and want to do all three at once: send us a CV and a sentence on the project you’re proudest of.
