Mungari 4.2 Process Plant Expansion — SAG Mill Chiller Package
Design, supply and pre-fabrication of an 831 kW air-cooled VFD screw chiller and dual-circuit chilled-water pump/heat-exchanger skid for SAG mill motor and ancillary cooling on the Mungari 4.2 process plant expansion.

Project story
QEG was engaged by GR Engineering Services (GRES) for Evolution Mining's Mungari 4.2 Process Plant Expansion Project to design, supply and pre-fabricate the SAG Mill Chiller Package (CP047). The scope comprised a Midea SCAF275HV(FCI) air-cooled VFD screw chiller (831 kW at 47 °C ambient) with integrated indirect free-cooling for the cold Goldfields nights, a Danfoss Sondex S22-IG16 plate heat exchanger separating the closed potable-water chilled loop from the open process cooling loop, dual duty/standby Wilo twin-head pump sets for both primary and secondary circuits, buffer and expansion tanks, automatic refill unit, BMS-integrated control panel and associated stainless-steel skid pipework. The package was fully prefabricated, FAT-tested and commissioning-trialled at QEG's Sydney workshop before being delivered DAP to the Mungari Project Site and commissioned through to acceptance in March 2025, providing reliable cooling water at 15-18 °C to the SAG mill motor, VSD, motor bearing lubrication unit, gearbox lube skid and trunnion bearing lube skid (combined ~798-878 kW heat load).
