Replacement of 1658 kW York centrifugal chiller with Dunham-Bush water-cooled magnetic bearing Turbocor chiller at Capalaba Central Shopping Centre

We think this shopping destination is the ideal place to 'Chill'
Project story
Quantum Engineering Group was approached by the maintenance contractor, Moreton Bay Airconditioning (MBA), on behalf of the building owner Shayher Alliance, to provide options to replace the existing 1658 kW York centrifugal chiller which had reached end-of-life. QEG provided an option report complete with ROI analysis, demonstrating that a Dunham-Bush Turbocor magnetic bearing chiller offered a 5.5-year return on investment and projected savings of $1.7M over 25 years against the existing plant. MBA subsequently engaged QEG on a design-and-construct basis. QEG's scope included engineering design, a factory acceptance test of the chiller prior to shipment, full mechanical installation with pipework connections to existing pumps, BMS controls update, remote monitoring facility, and commissioning. QEG implemented its robust project delivery methodology with weekly progress reports throughout the works.
Equipment installed
- 1 x 1658 kW Dunham-Bush water-cooled magnetic bearing centrifugal chiller (Danfoss Turbocor compressors, replacing existing York centrifugal chiller)
- BMS controls update to match new chiller efficiency profile
- Remote 24/7 off-site monitoring system
“By QEG providing an ROI report it became obvious to us which technology to adopt on this project. The weekly progress reports kept all stakeholders fully informed and provided valuable time savings in not having to attend many meetings. We highly recommend the services provided by QEG.”
